EPC Begins Large-Scale Production of GaN Power Stages, Boosting Motor Drive Market

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) is advancing the semiconductor industry with the mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family. This new offering includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 models, designed specifically for high-performance motion-control applications. These ePower™ Stage ICs are compactly encapsulated in thermally enhanced QFN packages and integrate high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry. By supporting operations up to 100 V with current ratings of 35 A and 20 A, the integrated design aims to enhance power density and efficiency, simplifying system design for users.

Among the notable features of this product family are fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss conditions, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Additionally, single-input PWM options are offered for multi-axis motor-control applications, positioning these devices as versatile solutions for various needs. EPC is also introducing several three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards, namely the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131. These platforms are centered around the new power-stage ICs and come equipped with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, as well as temperature monitoring and protection functions.

The new devices are available through EPC’s global distribution network, which includes major distributors like Digi-Key and Mouser. They are targeted at an array of applications, including humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. In terms of pricing, the EPC23108 and EPC23109 models are available at US$3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 models are priced at US$2.47 each, based on a purchase quantity of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards, EPC91128 and EPC91129, are priced at US$640 each, whereas the EPC91130 and EPC91131 are a bit less expensive at US$630 each.

To complement the launch, EPC is releasing a technical white paper available in English and Chinese, which provides detailed insights into the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these new integrated GaN power-stage ICs. This initiative is part of EPC’s broader strategy to drive the adoption and understanding of GaN technology in various advanced applications.
