This occasion will kick off the “Century of Creativity | 1926–2031” festivities, a five-year celebration that will culminate in 2031 when the center commemorates 100 years since its historic theater auditorium first opened its doors. The event is scheduled to take place from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring an array of activities including live performances, visual arts, historical exhibits, and campus tours.
Visitors will be treated to performances in the 718-seat historic theater and on the outdoor terrace between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Participating groups include renowned local organizations such as the Carmel Bach Festival, Monterey Symphony, and Carmel Music Society, alongside Youth Music Monterey, Carmel High School Chamber Singers, and Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre/TDC. The celebration is designed to be a reflection of the center’s deep-rooted connections with the community and its role in fostering cultural enrichment.
The event will also feature a “Sunset Legacy Wall,” a collaborative art project inviting attendees to share their artwork, memories, and messages about the center’s impact. For families and children, rock painting and other engaging activities are planned. Across the campus, live art demonstrations, music, photography sessions, and wellness activities will be available, along with guided tours of the historic property. An archival exhibition will chronicle the transformation of Sunset Center from a school campus to a key cultural hub in the region.
