Instagram Gets a Double Upgrade: Floating Reels and a True iPad App

Date:

Instagram is significantly enhancing its platform with a double upgrade aimed at improving usability and engagement. Users can look forward to a brand-new native iPad app and the testing of a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for Reels, which allows for uninterrupted video watching.
First, the long-awaited iPad app provides an experience that is fully optimized for the tablet’s screen size and capabilities. This means no more dealing with a poorly scaled phone app. The new design makes navigation smoother and content consumption, from photos to Reels, a more immersive and enjoyable activity.
Second, the PiP feature test is tackling the challenge of multitasking. When a user switches from a Reel to another app, the video will continue to play in a small, floating window. This enables users to reply to messages or browse other content without having to pause their video, seamlessly integrating Instagram into their communication flow.
For the Instagram community, these are welcome changes. Creators benefit from the PiP feature’s potential to increase video completion rates, a vital metric for growth. Meanwhile, all users, especially those on tablets, will enjoy a more polished and user-friendly interface. It’s a win-win for the platform’s ecosystem.
