Ukraine Under Pressure: Russia Claims Gains as Zelenskyy Uncovers New Threats

Date:

Kyiv – Ukraine is facing immense pressure on multiple fronts, as Russia claims significant territorial gains while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s government uncovers new and unconventional threats to its security.
The pressure on the battlefield is immense. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his forces have seized control of nearly 5,000 square kilometers this year. He declared that Moscow now holds the “complete strategic initiative,” suggesting Ukraine’s position is weakening.
At the same time, new threats are emerging. Zelenskyy has accused Russia of using its civilian oil tanker fleet to conduct “reconnaissance and even sabotage activities,” forcing Ukraine to divert resources to counter this clandestine maritime threat.
Despite the pressure, Zelenskyy is projecting resolve. He stated that Kyiv is working with its allies to stop these alleged operations, asserting that “it is entirely possible” to neutralize this new danger.
Adding to the complexity is the risk of further escalation from outside powers. Putin has warned the U.S. that supplying Tomahawk missiles would trigger a “new stage of escalation” and would lead to the collapse of his country’s relationship with Washington.
