US-Jordan Trade Agreement Enhances Economic Collaboration and Business Opportunities

Date:

The United States and Jordan have unveiled a new trade agreement designed to enhance economic collaboration, reduce trade barriers, and create fresh opportunities for businesses across both nations. This pact ensures that Jordan will maintain duty-free entry for most American goods into its market, while both countries will collaboratively address and eliminate logistical and trade hurdles to facilitate smoother commerce.

According to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, this agreement is indicative of President Donald Trump’s broader initiative to fortify economic and strategic ties in the Middle East, thus opening new avenues for American exporters. Meanwhile, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, noted that Jordanian exports to the United States will incur a 10 percent tariff, whereas US exports to Jordan will continue to benefit from exemption under the existing free trade framework. This arrangement is anticipated to stimulate investment between the two countries.

The US and Jordan share a history of trade collaboration, having signed a free-trade agreement in 2001, marking Jordan as the first Arab nation to finalize such an agreement with the United States. By 2010, all duties under this agreement were fully removed, facilitating greater trade flow. The latest agreement builds on this foundation, aiming to deepen economic ties even further.

Trade relations between the two countries have been robust, with bilateral trade amounting to $5.34 billion in 2025, as per US government data. Jordan’s primary exports include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones, reflecting its diverse industrial output. The kingdom’s key import partners extend beyond the United States to include China, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting its strategic trading position in the region.
