Tim Cook has transitioned from his role as Apple’s chief executive to become the company’s executive chair, accompanied by a compensation package valued at approximately $47 million. This package is composed of a $2 million base salary and $45 million in stock options. A significant portion of these shares, specifically half, is contingent upon meeting performance targets, while the rest is set to vest over a span of four years.
Stepping into the CEO role is John Ternus, previously the head of hardware engineering at Apple. Ternus is set to receive a $3 million base salary, supplemented by a $55 million stock award. A larger fraction of his stock compensation is linked to performance criteria, reflecting the company’s emphasis on results-driven leadership.
During Cook’s leadership as CEO, which saw his compensation surpass $74 million in 2025, Apple experienced significant growth, with its market valuation soaring to approximately $4.7 trillion. His new role as executive chair will see him shift focus towards managing Apple’s external affairs, particularly its interactions with governments, policymakers, and strategic international markets.
John Ternus, a veteran within Apple, is now tasked with overseeing the company’s product strategy and operations. His ascent to the CEO position marks a new chapter in Apple’s leadership as the company continues to build on its substantial market presence and innovative legacy.
