Kazakhstan’s 15 Dreamliners Headline 37-Plane Regional Boeing Deal

Date:

An order from Kazakhstan’s Air Astana for 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners headlines a new 37-plane regional deal for the U.S. manufacturer. The agreement, which also includes orders from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, was announced by the Trump administration as a major diplomatic and commercial victory.
The Air Astana deal is transformative for the carrier, allowing it to replace its aging fleet of three 767s. More importantly, Boeing noted that the new 787s will give the airline the capability to launch its first-ever direct flights to North America, a significant strategic expansion.
The other parts of the deal are also substantial. Tajikistan’s Somon Air is set to acquire a mixed fleet of 14 aircraft, including four 787s and ten 737 MAX models. Uzbekistan Airways is also expanding its long-haul fleet, committing to eight additional 787 planes.
The entire 37-plane package was unveiled by the Commerce Department at the C5+1 Summit in Washington. This 10th-anniversary diplomatic meeting was used as a platform to underscore the administration’s transactional approach to foreign policy, where trade and U.S. business interests are paramount.
This deal fits a clear pattern under President Trump, where Boeing orders are frequently announced as part of larger trade and diplomatic initiatives. It adds to a strong year for Boeing, as the industry also watches for a potential 500-jet mega-deal with China.
